Light Not Raito

The creators intended him to be called Light.

I believe that "Raito" derives from the earliest DN scanalations. Back then, while it was easy to deduce the names of other characters, it was quite hard to figure out whether or not Raito was a made up name or a katakana rendering of "Light". Halfway through the scan series though, they settled on Light, the official name.

The names Raito and Eru are used in the anime, but that's due to Japanese pronunciation (as you all should know, the letter L does not exist in the Japanese language)

I know this happens quite frequently in the world of Japanese cartooning- the character of Pain in Naruto is more frequently referred to as "Pein" despite the former being the official name.

I'm sorry, but I don't subscribe to the whole theory of "the character originated in Japan so we have to call them by their Japanese pronunciation"
