Western Cartoons are Not Anime

DO NOT COMMENT BEFORE READING THE ARTIST'S COMMENTS!

In Japan, the word "anime", being short for animation can mean any animated cartoon, the general western usage is used to refer to Japanese cartoons only. So while Naruto, Bleach, Sailor Moon etc. could be considered anime, The Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park could not.

I've seen quite a few people refer to western cartoons with very little semblance to traditional Japanese anime as "anime" I was on a Pokemon site the other day and a writer referred to the "South Park anime". Yes, Matt and Trey are big anime fans, but it does NOT mean their cartoon series, with its distinctive western flavour, IS A GODDAMN ANIME!!!

Sure, there are borderline cases where the anime style is used in Western cartoons like Avatar and every little kids favourite, Ben 10, but these are still considered cartoons by the great majority of people who DON'T think Japan is the greatest country on earth.
