Seriously

Don't get me wrong, I love anime, as can be deduced from my icon and my art.

HOWEVER it does not take over every minute of my existence. I don't collect overpriced stuff imported directly from Japan to show my devotion to a certain anime character. I don't have a room plastered in anime posters. I don't dream of moving to Japan and becoming a famous mangaka. In fact, it's very hard for someone who isn't Japanese to make it big drawing manga in Japan. And like a lot of creative trades, drawing manga is not a big earner. I remember reading somewhere that mangakas earn as much per hour as a McDonalds worker.

I don't have anime on the brain 24/7. Sure, I collect DVDs and manga volumes, but I also enjoy other things such as comedies. I rarely talk with people about anime. I've never been to an anime convention (though most of that is due to my geographic location more than anything. I'd only be prepared to travel 50 miles AT THE MOST to go to a con when some people fly over to Japan to go to cons ) A lot of anime is good, a lot is bad. I'm not one of those people who thinks every single anime ever concieved is awesome.

tl;dr, anime isn't everything.
